FTX Founder Behind Bars: Bail Revoked Amid Accusations of Witness Tampering
Sam Bankman-Fried’s bail was revoked during a Friday court session. The
decision means the FTX founder will remain in custody until his trial in
October. The revocation was based on allegations that Bankman-Fried
tampered with witnesses, a violation of his bail conditions. The
Department of Justice (DOJ) had earlier argued that his bail conditions
were inadequate, citing several violations, including an alleged attempt
to undermine a former Alameda executive by leaking her diary to the
media. Although his communication with the press wasn’t a problem for
the prosecutors, they argued that he attempted to influence witnesses
unfairly. The DOJ also reintroduced previously dropped campaign finance
charges into his existing charges, accusing him of using customer
deposits for political influence and concealing the origin of his
fraudulent gains.
